2009 Hunger Bowl: A1 Plumbing Supports Idaho Food Bank

DONATE TO THE FOOD DRIVE ONLINE HERE

Idaho State Hunger BowlFor another year, A1 Plumbing is supporting the Hunger Bowl to raise both monetary and food donations for the Idaho Food Bank.   The Boise State - University of Idaho game on November 14 at Bronco Stadium will mark the second Hunger Bowl food drive in an effort to tackle Idaho hunger.

Last year's Hunger Bowl raised $8,000 and 15,000 pounds of food. Because the Foodbank can acquire five pounds of food for a dollar, this was the equivalent of 63,000 pounds for the event. That's nearly 50,000 meals for hungry families and their children. The goal this year is to collect enough food to cover a football field – that's one ton of food per yard for a total of 200,000 pounds.   Hunger Bowl II is a combination of three once-separate food drives of The Idaho Foodbank, Boise Rescue Mission and Salvation Army.

Hunger Bowl organizer and A1 Plumbing Business Developer Dan Long has also arranged an additional incentive for fans. A1 Plumbing will discount its services by $1 per can of food, up to $10, for fans who contribute. The company will also match its customers' donations dollar for dollar.

The Hunger Bowl food and funds drive will include:

* Non-perishable food can be dropped at any A1 Plumbing or Tates Rents location, as well as any Treasure Valley Family YMCA.
* "Fans with Cans" – fans attending the University of Idaho game can take non-perishable food to the November 14 game. Donations can be dropped at the Tates Rents tent across from the Allen Noble Hall of Fame Gallery and at Peak live remote locations around the stadium.
 * A1 Plumbing will discount service by $1 for every can of food customers donate, up to 10 cans. The company will also match the total donations dollar for dollar.
 * Peak Broadcasting will promote the food drive on 580 KIDO, and will receive support from 107.9 LITE-FM, 63 KFXD-AM, Mix 106, Wow Country! 104.3-FM and 103.3 Kiss FM.
 * The goal of the inaugural Hunger Bowl is to collect a football field’s worth of food.  At one ton per yard, that would be 200,000 pounds.

An estimated 170,000 Idahoans aren't sure where their next meals are coming from and 65,500 of them are children. With events like this, we can help Idaho families get through the holidays and Idaho's cold winter months.

A1 Plumbing Brings Green Plumbing Training to Boise

The Boise WaterShed Educational Center and A1 Plumbing & Emergency Rooter will bring GreenPlumbers® innovative national training and accreditation program to Boise on February 19, 2009. The all day seminar will be at the Boise WaterShed Environmental Education Center from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The goal of the GreenPlumbers® (www.greenplumbersusa.com) program is to train and deploy a green army of plumbers to promote the benefits of water conservation and the reduction of green house gas emissions. The focus is on changing consumer and plumbing behavior through the use of energy efficiency and water saving technologies. This grassroots plan is voluntary and can be implemented quickly without legislation or regulation.

“How can we expect homeowners and business people to be serious and knowledgeable about water and energy conservation unless the plumbers that bring the water and energy to their houses are not equally serious?” event organizer and owner of A1 Plumbing Marty Cullen said. “The GreenPlumbers® goal is nothing less than complete culture change for the plumbing industry.”

The event is open to any licensed plumber in the Treasure Valley. GreenPlumbers normally charges $175.00 per person for an eight hour training course. But A1 Plumbing, with the help of Kohler Company, Toto Toilets, and Grundfos USA will subsidize the training and pay $145.00 of the $175.00 fee.

“We want people who are serious about being better plumbers and stewards of our natural resources to attend,” Cullen said. “We believe the $30.00 fee is very reasonable for this important training, yet small enough that any of the valley’s plumbers can afford to attend.”

The event is also open to commercial property owners and managers. Updating plumbing systems can be a great investment for property owners. This course will help property managers learn about new technology and products that can help increase property values and reduce operating costs.

The Boise WaterShed Environmental Education Center is designed to promote water stewardship by teaching people of all ages how to protect and conserve our precious resource for future generations. Created thorough a unique partnership of City funding for building construction and corporate/citizen funding for exhibits, Boise WaterShed empowers people to take action by learning how to use water wisely and by understanding how crucial their behavior is to protecting the water quality in our region.

Registration must be completed online at http://www.greenplumbersusa.com/boise-cfw.

First Annual Hunger Bowl Will Tackle Hunger

OCTOBER 17 2008: BSU VS HAWAII

A1 Plumbing PresidentThe first Hunger Bowl - The First Bowl of the Year will be the culmination of a two-week food drive whose goal is 200,000 pounds – or the cash equivalent – to feed hungry Idaho families during these hard economic times.

The Hunger Bowl is a hugely exciting new event on the Foodbank calendar. In an effort to fill the empty shelves at The Idaho Foodbank, the energetic Dan Long, formerly the owner and now the business developer for A1 Plumbing, has put together a coalition that so far includes Boise State University football, Peak Broadcasting (the new home of Bronco football), and Tates Rents, along with Banner Bank, the Downtown Boise YMCA, Disaster Kleenup, Thornton Oliver Keller Commercial Real Estate, the Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce, the Nampa Chamber of Commerce, the Meridian Chamber of Commerce, the Caldwell Chamber of Commerce, Sam’s Club, Idaho Power and the Building Owners & Managers Association.

The Hunger Bowl food and funds drive will include:

Idaho State Hunger Bowl* Non-perishable food can be dropped at any A1 Plumbing or Tates Rents location, as well as any Treasure Valley Family YMCA.
* "Fans with Cans" – fans attending the Hawaii game can take non-perishable food to the Oct. 17 game.
 * Peak Broadcasting will promote the food drive on 580 KIDO (the new home of the Bronco radio broadcasts), and will receive support from 107.9 LITE-FM, 63 KFXD-AM, Mix 106, Wow Country! 104.3-FM and 103.3 Kiss FM.
 * The goal of the inaugural Hunger Bowl is to collect a football field’s worth of food.  At one ton per yard, that would be 200,000 pounds.

The Hunger Bowl comes at a crucial time for hungry Idaho families. Food prices are way up. Food donations to the Foodbank are declining, while demand and expenses – especially gas prices – are rising. Idaho remains the 13th hungriest state in the nation overall and has the sixth highest rate of child hunger. Events like this make a real difference.
